AWCCI was born on March 12, 2017 by name change of an advocacy organization established in 2014 called Leading Entrepreneurs for Afghanistan's Development (LEAD). LEAD was established by a group of Afghan businesswomen leaders to give a recognition to women's contribution in the economic development of the country and to represent Afghan businesswomen's concerns and interests meaningfully through policy advocacy. AWCCI/LEAD has now both advocacy and business development services for Afghan businesswomen.
